Ready to make a real impact? The District of Columbia's Pathways to Service Program is here to set you on a path to greatness! The DC Department of Employment Services is teaming up with higher education institutions, led by HBCUs, this initiative cultivates a new generation of public sector professionals who are ready to make a difference from day one. Whether working in policy, administration, or community engagement, participants from all backgrounds gain paid, structured experience that transforms education into action - launching them into long-term careers with purpose. Launched in 2024, the program is a dynamic initiative to cultivate the next generation of public service leaders. The program offers a unique opportunity for graduating seniors from eligible higher academic intuitions embarking on a fulfilling career in public service within the DC government.
The inaugural program selected 25 standout seniors from local district universities for a year-long apprenticeship program with DC government agencies and DC Water followed by full-time work (starting at Grade 11, Step 1), with hands-on training, valuable mentorship, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
As part of the Public Service Program, selected participants will join a tight-knit cohort, making connections, engaging in community service projects, and leveling up their professional skills.
You’ll be free to explore various career paths and find your perfect fit. And the best part? Once you complete the program, you’re guaranteed a spot within the DC government – becoming a crucial part of shaping the city's future.
