Ready to make a real impact? The District of Columbia's HBCU Public Service Program is here to set you on a path to greatness! The DC Department of Employment Services is teaming up with Howard University (HU) and the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) to create an opportunity for HBCU graduates to dive headfirst into public service roles.
Launched in 2024, the HBCU Public Service Program is a dynamic initiative to cultivate the next generation of public service leaders. The program offers a unique opportunity for graduating seniors from eligible Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to embark on a fulfilling career in public service within the DC government. The inaugural program selected 25 standout seniors from HU and UDC for a year-long apprenticeship program with DC government agencies and DC Water followed by full-time work (starting at Grade 11, Step 1), with hands-on
training, valuable mentorship, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
As part of the Public Service Program, selected participants will join a tight-knit cohort, making connections, engaging in community service projects, and leveling up their professional skills.
You’ll be free to explore various career paths and find your perfect fit. And the best part? Once you complete the program, you’re guaranteed a spot within the DC government – becoming a crucial part of shaping the city's future.
